Opportunity Description
This scholarship, which covers the full cost of DCU’s full-time MSc in Digital Marketing program each year, is open to one student, EU or non-EU. In 2008, this scholarship was instituted as a tribute to John Thompson, an eminent Irish newspaper boss. Throughout his nearly 30-year career in the industry, John played a pivotal role in the founding and commercial expansion of some of Ireland’s most iconic and popular magazines, including U Magazine, The Sunday World, and The Irish Farmers Journal.
He formerly served as Chief Executive of Associated Newspapers Ireland, the publisher of the Irish Daily Mail and Irish Mail on Sunday, and Managing Director of Independent Star Limited, the business that produced the Irish Daily Star. John believes that journalism and marketing work best together since they both encourage consumer involvement and create opportunities for businesses to succeed. This scholarship aims to develop linkages between digital marketing and online journalism by encouraging graduates of business, journalism, and more diverse educational backgrounds to study digital marketing integrated with an awareness of media and online journalism.
